It is a long but simple drive: north out of Mumbai past Dahisar and Vasai, into Gujarat after the Palghar stretch, then on through Surat, Bharuch and Vadodara. Beyond Vadodara, the Ahmedabad–Vadodara Expressway usually makes the last part quicker.
A day this long has a rhythm to it. Starting early gets you clear of Mumbai's morning traffic, Surat or Vadodara make natural places for a meal break, and reaching Ahmedabad before the evening rush makes the last few kilometres much easier. Plan for proper breaks, for your sake and the driver's.
