Leave Surat in the early morning and you usually reach Mumbai ahead of the evening rush. Leave after lunch on a weekday and you are likely to arrive in the thick of it, when the Western Express Highway is at its slowest. For drops in Thane or Navi Mumbai, the route turns off before Dahisar towards Ghodbunder Road, which has busy hours of its own.
