Hiring a Local Taxi in Mumbai by the Hour: Which Package Fits Your Day?
2 Oct 2026Some days in Mumbai do not fit a single ride from A to B. Three meetings in three parts of town, a wedding-shopping day, or a parent's hospital appointment with a pharmacy stop afterwards: for days like these, a local taxi in Mumbai hired by the hour is often easier than booking ride after ride. You get one car and one driver who waits while you do what you came to do. Here is how the packages work and how to pick the right one.
The hourly packages at a glance
Each package pairs a number of hours with a kilometre allowance:
- 4 hours / 40 km: a short errand run, or a single meeting with travel either side.
- 6 hours / 60 km: a half day with a few stops.
- 8 hours / 80 km: a full working day, or a day of sightseeing.
- 10 hours / 100 km: a long day, or a full day that starts outside the city centre.
- 12 hours / 120 km: weddings, events and days that run late.
The package fare is fixed for the whole car and shown before you book, with 5% GST added at checkout. The cars available for your package appear with their fares, and the driver stays with you for the length of the package.
What counts as extra
Go past either limit and you pay for the extra at the rate quoted when you book:
- Extra hours. If your day runs longer than the package, the additional time is charged.
- Extra kilometres. If you cover more distance than the allowance, the additional kilometres are charged.
- Both can apply. A long day with a detour out to the far suburbs can go over on both hours and distance.
- Toll and parking. Whether these are included is shown in the fare breakdown before you pay. If your day uses the Bandra–Worli Sea Link or a paid car park at a mall, it is worth a look.
Inside the city, you are more likely to run short of hours than kilometres. Forty kilometres in four hours sounds small, but on weekday roads it often turns out to be plenty.
Matching a package to your day
Business meetings
Meetings in BKC, Lower Parel and Andheri on the same day can easily fill six to eight hours once you count waiting time and traffic. With the car waiting outside, you are not standing at the kerb between appointments. Give the driver all the addresses at the start, and ask for the order that avoids doubling back.
Shopping days
A wedding-shopping day can run from Crawford Market in the south to Dadar and on to Bandra. Choose a car with a proper boot, such as a sedan or an SUV, and keep valuables with you. Market lanes are often too narrow for a car, so the driver may drop you at the nearest road and wait close by. Agree on a pickup point before you walk off.
Sightseeing
For a first visit, an 8-hour/80 km package covers a good loop: the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Siddhivinayak Temple, Haji Ali Dargah and the Bandra–Worli Sea Link, ending at Juhu Beach in the evening. Entry fees are not included, and opening times change, so check them before you go. If you are staying in Thane or Navi Mumbai, the drive into the city uses up both time and kilometres, so look at the 10-hour or 12-hour package instead.
Hospital visits and family errands
A 4-hour package suits an appointment where the wait is hard to predict. The car is there when you come out, so an elderly patient is not left waiting for a ride. Mention any mobility needs in the notes, and we can suggest a car that is easier to get in and out of.
Weddings and events
A wedding day with a venue, a temple visit and a reception hall needs room in the schedule, which is what the 12-hour package is for. For a large family group, the Tempo Traveller seats sixteen, so everyone arrives together.
Getting the most out of your hours
- Start before the morning peak if your first stop is across town.
- Group your stops by area: South Mumbai together, the western suburbs together.
- List the stops in the booking notes so the driver can plan the order.
- If the day might run long, compare the next package up with the extra-hour rate before you book.
How to book an hourly package
On the booking form, choose a local package instead of a drop city, then add the date, the pickup time and your mobile number. You will see the cars with their fixed fares. Choose one, confirm your number with the 4-digit SMS code, add the pickup address and notes, and pay online by UPI or choose to pay cash to the driver. The driver and car details come by SMS before pickup. You can also call or WhatsApp us on +91 70965 05911. For more on getting around the city, see our page on cabs in Mumbai.
