One-Way or Round Trip? How to Choose an Outstation Cab from Mumbai

One-Way or Round Trip? How to Choose an Outstation Cab from Mumbai

2 Oct 2026

Most outstation cabs from Mumbai are booked in one of two ways: a one-way cab that drops you and leaves, or a round trip where the car stays with you and brings you home. Both are fair ways to pay, but they suit different trips, and choosing the wrong one can cost you more than it needs to. Here is how each is billed, and how to tell which one your trip needs.

How a one-way cab from Mumbai is billed

A one-way cab takes you from your pickup city to your drop city, and that is the end of the booking. You pay for your direction only. No return fare is added for the car going back. The fare is fixed for the whole car and shown before you book, with 5% GST added at checkout. Whether toll, parking and state tax are included depends on the route, and the fare breakdown shows it before you pay.

What you do not get is the car afterwards. Once you are dropped, the driver leaves, and anything you need at the other end is arranged separately. The one-way cabs page lists how it works in full.

How a round trip is billed

A round trip keeps the same car and driver with you from the moment you leave until you are back home. It is billed differently:

  • Per kilometre. The trip is charged by the distance driven.
  • Against a daily minimum. Each day of the trip comes with a minimum distance. If your kilometres come in below the minimum for the days you booked, perhaps because you spent a day at the resort, the minimum is what you pay for.
  • Plus a driver allowance. This is added to the round-trip price.

The per-kilometre rate, the daily minimum and the driver allowance all appear before you pay, so you can see the full picture for your dates. More detail is on the round trip cabs page.

When one-way costs less

A one-way cab is usually the better buy when you are not coming back soon, or not coming back by road at all:

  • Moving to Pune for a new job, or going to Surat for a week of work.
  • Getting to a family wedding in Nashik where you will stay for three days.
  • Driving down to Goa for a holiday and taking the train or a flight home.
  • A weekend in a Lonavala villa where you do not plan to leave the property.

In each of these, a round trip would mean paying the daily minimum for days when the car sits parked. Two one-way bookings, one each way, match what you actually use.

When a round trip makes more sense

A round trip comes out ahead when you are back within a day or two and the car is useful in between:

  • Same-day return. A Shirdi darshan, a meeting in Pune, a day out at Lonavala. You need a car home that evening anyway, and the same driver waits and brings you back, with no second booking to arrange.
  • Several stops. Nashik and Trimbakeshwar together, or the spread-out viewpoints of Mahabaleshwar, where you would otherwise be hunting for local transport at each place.
  • Places with few cabs. A small hill town or a village function, where finding a car back at the end of the day is uncertain.

A simple rule of thumb

Ask yourself two questions. Will I need the car while I am there? Am I coming back within a day or two? If the answer to both is yes, price a round trip. If either answer is no, price two one-way trips, or just one if you are not returning by road. Then compare the totals on the booking page for your actual dates. The numbers for your own trip matter more than any general rule.

Details people miss

  • Payment options differ. Paying cash to the driver is an option for one-way, local and airport bookings. Round trips are paid online by UPI.
  • Toll, parking and state tax. Crossing into Gujarat or Goa can bring state tax into the picture, and what is included varies by route. The fare breakdown is the place to check.
  • Driving hours on long trips. On a long round trip such as Goa, plan the days so the driver is not covering the full distance and then driving you around late into the evening as well.
  • Plans that may stretch. If a one-day trip could turn into two, say so when you book or call us as early as you can. An extra day brings its own minimum distance, which changes the total.
  • Luggage on a one-way move. If you are relocating, list the bags and boxes in the notes so the car you book can take them.
