Mumbai to Shirdi by Cab: Routes, a Darshan Day Plan and When to Stay Overnight
2 Oct 2026A Mumbai to Shirdi taxi takes you from your door to the temple town, about 240–250 km away, in about 5 to 6 hours, depending on traffic and the route. That is close enough for a same-day darshan and far enough that a little planning makes the day much easier, especially if you are travelling with elderly parents. This guide covers the two routes, a realistic day plan, and when it is wiser to stay the night.
Two roads to Shirdi
The Nashik highway, via the Kasara ghat
The traditional route leaves Mumbai through Thane and Bhiwandi, climbs the Kasara ghat to Igatpuri, and then heads across to Sinnar and on to Shirdi. It is the familiar road, with plenty of places to stop for food along the way. The Thane–Bhiwandi stretch can be slow with truck traffic, though, and the ghat takes longer in heavy rain.
The Samruddhi Mahamarg
The Mumbai–Nagpur Samruddhi Mahamarg starts near Bhiwandi on the Thane side and has an exit for Shirdi. It is an access-controlled expressway, so the drive is steadier, with fewer towns and junctions along the way. Tolls differ between the two routes, and whether toll is included in your fare is shown in the fare breakdown before you pay.
Which way the driver goes depends on traffic, the weather and where you start. If you have a preference, mention it in the booking notes.
A realistic same-day darshan plan
A day trip works, but it is a long day. Here is one way to plan it. Adjust it around your darshan slot and how busy the town is.
- Leave before dawn. A start at around 4 or 5 am gets you out of Mumbai ahead of the traffic and into Shirdi by mid to late morning.
- Darshan. How long it takes depends on the crowd. Weekdays are usually calmer, while Thursdays, weekends and festival days such as Ram Navami and Guru Purnima draw much bigger crowds. Check the official Shri Saibaba Sansthan Trust timings and darshan options before you leave home.
- Lunch and a short rest. Give the driver a proper break too, with the whole drive back still ahead.
- Head back by early afternoon. Leaving Shirdi by about 2 or 3 pm usually brings you into Mumbai in the late evening, though the last stretch into the city can be slow.
That adds up to roughly 10 to 12 hours on the road, plus your time in Shirdi. For fit adults it is very doable. For elderly parents, small children or anyone who finds long car rides tiring, think about staying overnight.
Same day or overnight?
A same-day trip suits you if you are short of time, travelling light, and comfortable with a long day in the car.
An overnight stay suits you if you would like an early-morning darshan without a pre-dawn start from Mumbai, you are travelling with older family members, or you want to add another temple to the trip. It also gives the driver a full night's rest before the drive home, which matters on a road of 5 to 6 hours.
How the choice changes the fare
For a same-day or overnight trip, a round trip keeps the same car and driver with you throughout. It is billed per kilometre against a daily minimum distance, plus a driver allowance, and all the figures appear before you pay. A second day does not double the driving, but it does bring its own minimum distance into the calculation, so compare the one-day and two-day totals on the booking page before you decide.
If you plan to spend several days in Shirdi, two one-way bookings may cost less than keeping a car waiting. With a one-way cab you pay for your direction only. Check the booking form for the return direction, or call us on +91 70965 05911 to arrange it.
What to carry
- A photo ID for each adult, which you may need for darshan passes and hotel check-in.
- Footwear that is easy to slip off, since you will leave it outside the temple.
- Water, snacks and any regular medicines for the drive.
- A light shawl or jacket for early starts in the winter months.
- Some cash in small notes for flowers and prasad.
Adding Shani Shingnapur, Nashik or Trimbakeshwar
Many pilgrims combine Shirdi with Shani Shingnapur, or with Nashik and Trimbakeshwar. Each of these adds several hours of driving, which turns a long day into a very long one, so these combinations work better as a two-day round trip. List the places you want to visit in the booking notes so the route can be planned around them.
