If you are landing in Mumbai and heading straight to Pune, a cab from the airport takes you door to door without changing vehicles. From Terminal 1 at Santacruz or Terminal 2 at Sahar, the first leg crosses the city towards Chembur and Vashi before the expressway begins near Panvel. That city stretch is usually the slowest part, especially in the evening rush, while late-night arrivals often find the roads much clearer. Add the time for it to the usual 3 to 3.5 hours for the roughly 150 km between Mumbai and Pune.
