Starting from Navi Mumbai cuts the slowest part out of a Pune trip. The Mumbai–Pune Expressway begins at Kalamboli, near Panvel, so instead of crawling out of Mumbai first, you are on the expressway after a short drive from most of Navi Mumbai. The distance is about 120 km, though traffic still decides the exact time.
Pickups from Panvel, Kamothe and Kharghar are closest to the expressway. From Vashi, Sanpada or Nerul, the way out is along the Sion–Panvel highway, which can be busy at office hours, so allow extra time on weekday mornings and evenings.
